Traditional Japanese Clothing

The traditional ethnic garments of Japan are still in use today, such as the kimono. Although , they are only worn for ceremonies and special events, such as funerals and coming-of-age ceremonies. The kimono is a very traditional garment of Japan. Japanese kimonos are wrapped around the body, sometimes in several layers. The modern kimono is not worn as often as it once used to be. Most women modernly wear a kimono for special occasions. In modern day Japan, kimono are a marked feminine costume and a national attire. The kimono is styled to fit the 4 seasons. Clothing with more rustic colors and patterns are favored in autumn, while in spring, more vibrant colors and floral designs (especially cherry blossoms) are in common trend. In winter, those dressing in kimono tend to wear darker colors and multiple layers. These days, one rarely sees kimonos except at festivals or parties. Though kimonos are today recognized as festive attire, they are still very beautiful and ethnic of the Japanese culture.
