Japanese Drama: Kabuki & Noh

Kabuki is a combined melodramatic singing and dancing drama production with heavy eccentric makeup and elaborate costumes worn. kabuki is the most popular of the traditional styles of Japanese drama and its star actors often appear in television or filmroles

Noh plays are often based on legends and folktales. Actors wear painted wooden masks to express various emotions, and use gestures and costumes to tell a story. Most noh actors are men, as men  also play the parts of women.
